| Q. Can you please provide more details on how the course is divided up so our team can assign loops? A. There are 6 loops; each is a 5K (3.1 miles). For course maps, please visit http://wondersofwalking.com/event_wv30k.php#highlights |
| Q. Does the team decide what order to walk in? Does each member have to walk the same number of legs?
A. The team decides what order they walk in and must follow that rotation. However, as long as your team stays in rotation, team members may walk different numbers of loops if they choose. For example, in a three person team; team member A walks Loop #1, TM B walks Loop #2 and Loop #3, TM C walks Loop #4, TM A walks Loop #5 and TM B walks Loop #6. |
| Q. The Willamette Valley 30K Walk n' Relay sounds like a wonderful event! I have 2 questions and they are: 1) Is there a deadline for team registration? 2) Is there a limit to the number of teams? A1. Yes, the general deadline is June 15. After June 15, there will be a late fee applied to all registrations. We will not accept any registrations after July 11. A2. For this first year we are limiting the size to the first 200 teams that register to ensure the quality of the event the first time out. |
| Q. Safety. With the Willamette Valley Relay, there was traffic to worry about. How safe is this route? A. We are concerned about safety and have therefore selected a course entirely enclosed within Alton Baker Park. You will be walking on the bike and walk trails in the park - no cars allowed! |
| Q. If we want to send some of our proceeds to another charity, is that part of the registration or do we have to raise more? A. You may fund raise for additional charities. |
| Q. Who is the charity beneficiary? A. This year we are so pleased to partner with the Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth. |
| Q. Should we bring our own food? A. In addition to food vendors in the Hub, Eugene also has food service in a variety of forms. You may choose to bring your food, buy food at the Hub, or to leave the course to find food. |
Q. What about water for the various areas? A. Water coolers will be provided in the HUB area - BUT, you must bring a refillable container from home. |
| Q. Will we get our money back if this race does not have enough teams? A. The Willamette Valley 30K Walk n' Relay will take place. We have no expectation of this event not going through, given the overwhelming interest to date. However, should an’ act of God’ or other unforeseeable event occur beyond our control, the registration fee is non-refundable. |
| Q. Are there porta potties on the course? A. Since each loop of the course is under 3.1 miles, there will be no porta potties. Facilities will be located at the central Hub, where each loop begins and ends. |
| Q. When will the loops be identified? A. The loops are set and posted online. You can find them at www.wondersofwalking.com |
| Q. Will there be traffic on any of the loops? A. Only foot and bicycle traffic. |
Q. Will the park paths be open to the public during the WV events? A. Yes the park will be open to the public, so there could be others enjoying the loop paths. |
| Q. Are there staggered start times? A. The 10K will begin at 7:45 am and the 30K will begin at 8:00 am. It is our intention to have all 30K teams and individuals cross the finish line within the same two hours. Based on each team's times, some faster teams/individuals will begin after 8:15. |
Q. When does the WV Family 5K start? A. The Family 5K has a sliding start time, the course will be open from 10:30 to 1:00, start when you wish! |
| Q. What is the projected finish time? A. Projected finish times will depend on the average pace of the team for the distance covered. The awards ceremony is tenatively scheduled for 3:00 pm, by that time, all walkers should have crossed the finish. |
| Q. Will there be any post race activities at the end of the event? A. There are activities planned for during and after the event. While you are waiting for your teammate to finish their loop, visit the central Hub for vendors and fun! |
Q. Can families participate? A. Yes, we encourage families by offering a family 5K which may be walked between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm. Or, a family may wish to form a team for the relay. |
Q. Where are the exchanges? A. The exchanges will take place in the Hub. |
Q. If you have 'X' number of teams, can the walkers (1 from each team) walk the loops together? A. Yes. |
Q. Can the walker assigned to that loop have other friends join them to complete the loop? A. No, we would like to maximize the walking space for participants. |
Q. Can all team members walk the last leg together and finish as a team? A. While we don't want the entire team walking the final loop, we can have a 'staging area' where the team can join the final walker for the last ~100 feet so they can cross the finish line together. |
| Q. If Big Daddy and the Street Walkers want to have more than one team, would we just register as BD&SW, then BD&SW2? A. Teams can name themselves as they choose |
| Q. Location - is LaQuinta the closest hotel to the central event area? A. Yes, LaQuinta is close but unfortunately booked solid. We do have a block of rooms reserved at University Inn & Suites, 1857 Franklin Blvd. Eugene, OR. Also very close, please call 541-342-4804 to reserve. |
Q. What is this "Green" business all about? A. We are focused on making this event as "Green" as possible. That means making environmentally conscious decisions whenever possible.
